One electric motor takes the place of the alternator, mounted at the front of the engine, while the second is placed inside the transmission, replacing the torque converter. Powered by a 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the PHEV system gives the Wrangler 4xe 375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque, a 370-mile driving range, 49 MPGe, and 21 miles of all-electric driving. The last Wrangler engine is the mighty 6.4 HEMI V8, exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon 392 and laying down an exhilarating 475 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque.

There are three different 4x4 systems available for the 2023 Wrangler. Standard with the V6 engine is Command-Trac part-time 4x4. This allows drivers to switch into and out of four-wheel drive while on the move to manually adapt to changing road conditions. Meanwhile, the 4-HI and 4-LO drive modes allow you to change the transfer case gearing based on vehicle speed to maximize traction. Meanwhile, turbocharged, V8, and 4xe models come with the Selec-Trac 4x4 system. Selec-Trac is an advanced 4x4 system that continuously reads road conditions and can automatically shift into and out of four-wheel drive without any driver intervention. However, Selec-Trac also offers a full-time 4WD mode, which drives all four wheels and seamlessly adjusts torque distribution based on which wheels have traction. The last system, Rock-Trac 4x4, is exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon. Like Command-Trac, Rock-Trac 4x4 features a part-time transfer case, giving drivers manual control over the four-wheel drive operation. However, the transfer case has a lower gear ratio, allowing for better control while crawling over off-road terrain at low speeds.
